Are Websites Still Relevant?

With social media, AI and video, do I still really need to invest in a website that’s loaded with text?

The truth is that yes, you do! We’re not saying this because it’s our business. And, frankly, we are proud that we are nimble in our approach and would have changed tactics if we didn’t think there was immense value in our clients having a website.

A website is not just important for your business but is increasingly essential if you want people to find you. In this way, it may be more important than ever.

SEO, AI interaction, scam avoidance, and supporting social media are all part of why you need a website. But let us tell you a little secret: Your website feeds information to search engines, which in turn are used by AI when people ask a question. If you want to be found in AI Mode, you will need to have a website that checks a lot of boxes.

When we started working with SEO, there weren’t that many categories that clients really needed to check. There was a lot of noise, but search engines like Google or Bing were only measuring a dozen or two categories – none of which we knew. They moved the goalposts periodically to keep us from gaming the system too much, and the big guys would figure this out and slam a load of money into it to gain an edge. And the goalposts would move again, and that money would be wasted.

Today, and to the best of our knowledge, there are more than 200 categories being measured and collected. What is the priority today: geolocation, video, in-bound links? Who knows?! By the time you read this article, it might change. This is why as a small business/entrepreneur, you need to be focused on areas where you can make the greatest impact.

A website is not just an inexpensive billboard. It is the repository of your business’s story, and it will become your identity. What you did last year will be on your website, the same as what you do tomorrow. This record of building your story on your website is something that a search engine and AI will discover. And it is how those search tools will ultimately present you to people searching for the goods or services you are providing.

At Power Pair Marketing, we work as broader business consultants as much as on pure marketing ideas to help your business to flourish in this environment. And if you’re a prospective client in the areas where we concentrate – law, insurance, finance or accounting – you need a firm like ours that you can trust to help tell your story and promote the right information so clients can find you. No matter the chatter today, this really isn’t a DIY proposition.

To answer the question in the title: yes, you need a website. And to go one step beyond that, yes, you need a marketing company to make this investment count!
