Should You Panic Over AI or Should You Embrace It?
The existential question with any new technology is whether you should embrace it or panic over it.
Yes, artificial intelligence in the form of Chat GPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and all others may feel like that glowing ring on an electric stove that’s about to burn you. And, you know, that’s how people have felt about technology since the dawn of the industrial revolution.
Fear of new technology, most recently the computer and then the Internet, immediately leads to suspicion. However, technological advancement has proven itself to be a creator of efficiency and economic growth time and time again.
AI can be an effective second or third voice in a conversation. It shouldn’t replace you or alter your personality, which is a big part of your business and that’s a lot of your image. But we know that when we create something at Power Pair Marketing, letting AI give it a tweak is generally beneficial. And if we don’t think so, we discard the AI creation. Still, it’s a helpful tool.
We counsel our professional services to embrace AI in one area in particular: sprucing up their presentations. PowerPoints decks or Excel spreadsheets can become tedious rather quickly. And it’s not just for the potential client; the business owner can also feel rather bored with the presentation they are giving. Often, people feel most comfortable in the technical weeds, but it doesn’t make for an entertaining interaction for either party.
AI can help you to add bounce, cut unnecessary or extraneous content, reduce redundancy, and make the presentation more streamlined and engaging. That’s an enormous benefit! Hey, we could do that, but we would apply an hourly charge, and many AI programs do it for free.
That’s another area, and one we’ll get to in another show: the cost of AI. Right now, there are many free options. You may need to pay for some extra features but take advantage of and make yourself comfortable with the technology before the pay walls go up.
One other thing: Don’t let AI generate your content. AI is used by search engines, which are the AI knowledge base, to sniff out content that is generated by AI. That’s not good. If you want to do your own content and want to use AI as a short cut for the first draft, that’s fine. After that, you should do a few subsequent drafts of your content to help your site get recognized. The goal is to make it sound like you, not AI, and to get the SEO credit you are targeting.
