SEO Is Dead! Long Live SEO! Why You Shouldn’t Believe Reports of the End of SEO

SEO Is Dead! Long Live SEO! Why You Shouldn’t Believe Reports of the End of SEO“Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated!”

So, allegedly, goes one of the great misquotes of all time. It comes from Mark Twain, who apparently wrote far more colorlessly, “The report of my death was an exaggeration,” in response to an erroneous newspaper article. This was embellished into its current form a few years later.

Twain isn’t the only celebrity to have had his death misreported. Actor Abe Vigoda was erroneously reported dead so often that a website was devoted to the actor’s current dead or alive status. For the record, Abe – a favorite of ours as both Det. Phil Fish in Barney Miller and Sal Tessio in The Godfather – died in January 2016, a month shy of his 95th birthday. And for years he played that erroneous death card for all he could.

And so, it goes with search engines, too. The death of SEO, or search engine optimization, is reported over and over again as chatter about AI grows. As of this writing, it is like the colorful version of the quote attributed to Mark Twain: Reports of SEO’s death have been greatly exaggerated!

There are Reddit strings, articles and other musings that debate the death of SEO, but as one article summarizes about the death of SEO: “In short, no. People are still using search engines to find information, research products, and learn new things — but the way Google organizes and delivers search results has changed.”

Google changes its criteria, which includes AI getting involved, and it becomes increasingly harder to create relevant rankings as an attorney, insurance broker, accountant or financial advisor. It’s not something that can be done on the side or assigned to a low-level employee any longer. This is increasingly an area of real expertise.

The best way to accomplish this is to hire professionals who are working for you. Like your firm has expertise, Power Pair Marketing are experts who have designed our firm and our programs to work for small professional services firms. The opportunity cost for a lawyer, accountant, insurance broker or financial advisor would fall into the “penny wise, pound foolish” category. (By the way, that’s not Benjamin Franklin, as popularly cited, but is actually from an Oxford scholar named Robert Burton a century before Franklin was born. Back then, a penny was 1/240th of a British pound.) Like with your specialization, it takes time, effort and technique to achieve SEO results. This wouldn’t be spending your time well.

Should you give up on SEO and digital marketing because it’s gotten complicated? Absolutely not! And if you do, you could find yourself falling further and further behind, and the catch-up costs will grow very quickly. While the landscape is shifting, Power Pair Marketing has tools and programs that can help you achieve your firm achieve its marketing goals.

Power Pair Marketing was founded for the purpose of helping small firms achieve big digital marketing results. We are easy to work with, budget friendly, and help you to put your best foot forward to both Google and your potential clients.
